Flemington Spotlight: Kev Von Holt

Today we shine our spotlight on beloved local artist Kevin Von Holterman owner of the Kev Von Holt Gallery, on Stangl Road. Kev grew up in Readington Township and graduated from Hunterdon Central High School in 1992. He opened his gallery in Flemington five years ago in the very cool, repurposed Stangl Pottery factory. Kev’s gallery is a complete art-immersion experience where every inch of wall is filled with compelling bold and vibrant works of art.

Kevin specializes in abstract and modern art; he said, “I rarely use paintbrushes. Most of my work is done with my fingers, palette knives, cardboard strips, and squirt bottles. I work so fast and chaotic that I rarely even notice it all come together. There is no rhyme or reason to what I do or how I approach it; it just happens. When I paint, I wait for the spark and reach into my past and present emotions and enjoy every frantic moment of it.”

Kevin said seeing customers love his work as much as he does never gets old. Watching them connect on an emotional level with an art piece is truly something special. Aside from his abstract pieces, he also does pet portraits, and he loves watching customers light up when he reveals the finished product. And these are not your average pet portraits –these colorful portraits contain Kev’s heart and soul and good energy in the making of the work.

Fun Fact: When working in the gallery, one of his favorite pick me ups is visiting his next-door neighbors at Factory Fuel for coffee and treats!

Kevin is re-opening his gallery on Saturday, October 3rd.
The gallery will be open Fridays and Saturdays, and any other day will be by appointment only.
